Quick answer: Confirm the second-row layout before planning the room. Five-seat and seven-seat Model X cars use a bench with backrests that fold forward and lie flat. Do not assume a six-seat car with separate monopost seats produces the same platform. After confirming the bed lane, reserve a clear side entrance and divide the remaining space among changing, luggage, charging and a small night station.
The Model X offers enough room to encourage ambitious packing. It also offers an unassigned bag plenty of opportunities to settle exactly where somebody intended to sit.
On our trips, the most valuable extra space was not another luggage location. It was the open strip beside the mattress. That strip let us enter, change and reach the door without turning the bed into a path.
Before you copy that layout, confirm what the second row can actually do.
Let the seat configuration answer first
Five-seat and seven-seat Model X cars have a second-row bench whose backrests fold forward and lie flat. Six-seat cars use two individual monopost seats, so they should not be treated as the same flat bedroom platform.
Fold the seats in your own vehicle and inspect the route from the hatch toward the front. Clear seat belts and footwells, then look at the complete surface rather than the room visible through one open door. If the platform is not what you expected, verify compatibility before planning the rest of the night.

Once the platform is confirmed, the useful planning can begin.
Protect the side-door landing area
Open the side door you expect to use after dark and sit where the mattress edge will be. Watch where your feet land, where a hand supports you and how much room your knees need. Keep that small zone open for the entire night.
Falcon Wing doors need attention above and beside the vehicle. Their sensors cannot identify every branch, awning or piece of loose fabric. Remove snow and ice before using them and check the full movement yourself.
Rain adds another detail. Opening the liftgate while a Falcon Wing door is already open can let water enter the rear seating area. The door is impressive. It is not a campsite porch that signed a contract with the weather.
If the preferred entry faces an obstacle or the ground is poor, reposition the car before the mattress opens. Luggage is not a useful repair for a bad doorway.
Give the mattress the only permanent room
After installation, the sleep surface does one job. Do not use it as a table for clothing, camera cases, food or items waiting for a better idea.
Keep hard luggage, damp equipment and sharp corners away from the mattress. A small soft pocket near the entrance can hold the few items used from bed. Everything else belongs in a location that does not need to be cleared when somebody turns over.
A Model X may leave visible space around the mattress. Spend that space on access before storage. A narrow open lane can be more useful than another group of loose bags because it provides somewhere to sit and move without placing weight on the bed.
Test the finished room with both sleepers. Lie in the intended direction, sit up and leave through the selected side. Extra volume does not help if it sits behind the pillows or beneath something that cannot move at night.
Keep changing close to the entrance
The first clear area inside the night door becomes the changing spot. It only needs enough room to sit, remove shoes and reach one clothing bag. During the day it can serve another purpose, but at bedtime it should clear in one movement.
Bring the next morning's clothes forward before finishing the bed. Dirty and damp layers go into a closed bag that never crosses the mattress. With two sleepers, change one at a time while the other uses the front cabin or stays outside in a safe, sheltered position.
The Model X is roomy. It still cannot make two adults trying to occupy the same pant leg look organized.
Shoes remain low and contained. Wet outerwear goes to a wipeable area. In heavy rain, work through one opening and avoid moving several large doors at once unless the clearances make it safe.
Keep the night station deliberately small
Choose one stable pocket or pouch for the phone, backup key method, low-glare light, glasses and water. It must stay away from moving door parts and out of the foot route.
Confirm the outlets and ports in your exact vehicle rather than assuming every year and seating layout shares the same charging arrangement. Use compatible equipment, route cables along an edge and secure dense accessories before driving.
A long cable crossing the open lane is not flexible planning. It is a tripwire with battery benefits.

Sort luggage by the next time it is needed
Instead of dividing luggage by person, divide it by timing.
Departure-only items can stay deep and secured. Day gear remains reachable without touching the bed. Overnight items move forward before mattress installation. This prevents the warm jacket needed at midnight from spending the night under two sleepers and a completed bed.
Follow the load guidance for your own Model X. Current instructions place heavy cargo in the upper rear trunk, within its stated limit. That differs from the current guidance for Model Y and Model 3, so do not transfer one model's packing rule to another.
Soft overnight bags may use the front cabin while parked, but they still need a secure driving location. Preserve a quick route to a clear driver's seat, footwell and view. Food, wet gear and cooking equipment remain closed and separate from bedding.
When one bag is needed at night and again during departure, give it a position that works for both moments. More cabin room should reduce handling, not provide more scenery for unnecessary luggage.
Judge the plan by the morning reset
Collect the night station first. Air and contain the bedding while both people dress. Clear the entrance and driver's area before packing the mattress.
Restore the seats according to the controls for your configuration. Confirm that backrests lock, belts remain free and every bag returns to a secured driving location. Visually check all doors and the liftgate, especially near a branch or structure that was easy to ignore after dark.
Notice which object moved more than once. A day bag may belong nearer the hatch. A cable may be longer than the room requires. The changing zone may have quietly become storage after dinner. Fix that one point before the next trip.
A useful Model X bedroom is not measured by the number of bags it accepts. It has a confirmed floor, a bed that remains untouched, one dependable entrance and gear arranged by when it will return to your hands.
