The Ultimate Snuuzu FAQ
Everything Tesla owners ask us - and everything the community asks online - about turning your Model Y or Model 3 into a hotel-grade bedroom on wheels.

Product & Compatibility
We currently make purpose-built mattresses for the Tesla Model Y and the Tesla Model 3. Both versions are tailored to the exact interior geometry of their car, so the surface-flattening layer lines up correctly with the folded seats and trunk well. That said, many Model X and S owners also use our Model Y variant in their car (as well as at home).
Yes. The Snuuzu Model Y is compatible with all Model Y versions, including the 2025+ Juniper. The Snuuzu Model 3 is compatible with all Model 3 versions, including the Highland refresh. The seat-folding geometry on the refreshed cars is essentially the same, and our mattress was engineered with this in mind.
Yes. The Snuuzu Model Y mattress fits the Model X beautifully, and plenty of Model X owners use it both in the car and at home. We have a dedicated Model X page with fit videos and the full story, so head there for everything specific to your car: see Snuuzu for the Tesla Model X.
Model S: yes for the 2021 refresh and newer, where lots of owners use our Model Y variant and sleep great on it. On the pre-2021 Model S there's a sizeable step left when the rear seats fold down, so we don't recommend it there unless you build a small platform to bridge that step yourself.
Cybertruck: not yet. Our current line-up covers the Model Y (which also serves the Model X and newer Model S) and the Model 3. We're listening to the community on the Cybertruck, so if you'd like to be notified when we expand, drop us a line through the contact page.
We get this one a lot. Each mattress is tailored to a specific car's dimensions and floor contour, so for the best fit, a flat surface and the most comfort, choose the version that matches your car.
Technically the Model Y mattress would fit in a Model 3 — but the surface-flattening air layer is shaped differently for each car. The Model 3 has a more steeply angled rear-seat fold, so the Model Y's air layer wouldn't fill that dip perfectly. The other way around, a Model 3 mattress in a Model Y leaves the air layer thicker than the dip it needs to fill, so you'd feel your hips pushed up slightly.
- Technically you could — but it's not ideal.
- A Snuuzu Model Y in a Tesla Model 3 → a slight dip around the hips.
- A Snuuzu Model 3 in a Tesla Model Y → a slightly raised hip area.
Three things, all aimed at solving the real problem with sleeping in a Tesla — the uneven surface left when you fold the rear seats:
- Patent-pending surface-flattening layer. Most car mattresses sit on top of the seat-back hump and trunk well. Ours is engineered to absorb those inconsistencies and create a flat, even sleeping surface. We were the first to invent this, and filed a patent for the design back in 2019.
- Hotel-style multi-layer build. A soft organic Lyocell top, a memory-foam comfort layer, a pressurised air layer, and a durable waterproof base — not a single chamber of air like a pool float. And we never put the foam inside the air layer, which would defeat the purpose of the foam and remove most of its effect. The result is a true, premium hotel-like feel — you won't even notice there's an air layer underneath.
- Built-in rechargeable pump with adjustable firmness. Inflate, deflate, or release a touch of air for a softer feel — all from one button. No external pump, no 12V cable to wrestle with. The pump is integrated into the mattress (and easily removed to recharge via USB-C). One more thing: newer batches now include a second pump as a free spare, so you're always covered on a trip.
- 1× Snuuzu mattress with built-in pump — newer batches now include two rechargeable internal pumps. After so many requests to order a spare, we decided to include an extra pump for free by default, so you have peace of mind wherever you go.
- 1× USB-C charging cable
- 1× duffle/carry bag (stays attached to the mattress for fast pack-up)
- 1× quick-repair set — we haven't heard of anyone needing it (thanks to our protective bottom shell), but it's there just in case.
- Optional add-on: Snuuzu pillow set (2 pillows, made from the same Lyocell as the mattress cover — only available bundled with a mattress, not as a stand-alone purchase).
- Sleeping surface: 205 × 130 cm (roughly 6'9" × 4'3") — sized for two adults, even taller users
- Thickness: Model Y — 20 cm; Model 3 — 18 cm
- Weight: approx. 10.6 kg (23.4 lb)
- Packed: fits in the sub-trunk of both the Model Y and Model 3
No. The mattress is designed to leave airflow paths open so Camp Mode keeps doing its job, and the height has been tuned so you can still see and reach the touchscreen while reclining.
On top of that, we added a soft, ventilating protective patch at the bottom head-end — for those moments when you rest your weight on the centre console while reaching forward. Little details that matter.
Comfort & Sleep Experience
We don't have physical showrooms yet — Snuuzu is a young company and we're still growing. We're actively exploring options to send material samples so you can feel the fabrics and foam before committing. In the meantime, we offer a 3-year warranty and we handle every individual case fairly.
On top of that, we've designed the Snuuzu to last for many years — every part is replaceable. We built it to last, and to be sustainable.
Yes. The sleeping surface is 205 cm long (around 6'9"), and several of our team members — including some at 6'4" — sleep on it regularly during testing. The mattress also extends slightly over the edge of the folded seats, so even tall users get full leg support — and thanks to our design, it won't sag in the middle the way a normal (air) mattress would.
Yes. Customers over 100 kg (220 lb) regularly report no bottoming-out and no pressure points. The combination of memory foam plus the pressurised air layer distributes weight evenly, and the firmness can be tuned by releasing a little air for side sleepers who prefer a softer feel.
Yes. The sealed air layer holds pressure overnight — you shouldn't need to top up air on a multi-night trip. If you ever notice it deflating during normal use, contact us; that's not normal and we'll help. (So far, every report of deflation has come down to the valve not being fully closed. Just press and twist the orange valve 45° to seal it — and if that doesn't fix it, reach out and we'll sort it.)
Yes — the 205 × 130 cm surface is roughly the size of a small queen and is designed for two adults. It's our most popular use case.
That's the bar we set. The multi-layer construction — Lyocell + memory foam (not trapped inside a plastic air layer) + a surface-evening air layer + a waterproof, puncture-protected base + an integrated packing system — is what separates it from typical car/camping mattresses. Customers who've tried other Tesla mattresses consistently tell us the Snuuzu feels closer to a real bed — often better than their own bed at home. We share this not to disparage other products, but because it's the most common comparison customers raise.
Many customers do — we've received countless photos of the Snuuzu being used well beyond the car. It works perfectly as a guest bed at home, in a tent, or in another vehicle — anywhere you want a comfortable, even sleeping surface. Just remember to charge the pump before you head out.
The mattress evens out the step left by the folded seats, but it can't level the whole car on a slope. If your campsite is significantly sloped, the simple fix experienced Tesla campers use is to choose a flatter spot or put small wedges/levellers under the wheels — the same trick RV owners use. Several customers actually prefer "boondocking" off-grid for this exact reason.
Fun fact: we actually designed the Snuuzu with nature's uneven campgrounds in mind. The head end sits slightly higher than the foot end, so if you park with the nose pointing a little downhill, the mattress levels right out. If the head and foot ends were the same height inside the car, you'd sleep on a slight incline by default — with the Snuuzu you can compensate by positioning the car nose-down the slope.
Setup, Pump & Daily Use
About 2 minutes to unpack and inflate, and 2 minutes to deflate and pack. Press the button on the built-in pump and let it run — no external pump, no manual blowing.
The pump is internal and battery-powered, and easily removed to charge via USB-C — in the car, at home, or from a power bank. Because it's self-contained, it doesn't draw from your Tesla's 12V or main battery during inflation. A full charge takes about 3–4 hours, and a single 20-minute charge is enough for one inflation.
Around 5 full inflate/deflate cycles on a single charge — easily enough for a long weekend or a multi-stop road trip. And you can always remove the pump once the mattress is inflated and pop it on the charger; it doesn't need to stay inside the mattress while you sleep (recharging it overnight is a good habit, and highly recommended).
There's a button that releases a small amount of air from the pressurised layer for a softer feel. Add air with the pump, release with the button — fine-tune to taste.
This is the single most-asked setup question, especially from Model 3 owners. The trick:
- Run the pump on deflate until you hear a higher-pitched sound, then let it run another 5–10 seconds to make sure all the air is out.
- Close the buckles.
- Start rolling from the foot end as tightly as possible — how tight you start the roll ultimately determines how small the package becomes.
- Keep pressure on the roll while you secure the Velcro straps.
If you've followed those steps and it still feels too tall for the sub-trunk, email us — we have a short instructional video we'll send over straight away.
It's no louder than a typical electric pump, and because inflation only takes ~1.5 minutes, you're not running it for long. Most users inflate it before bed and that's the last sound until morning. A simple fix if you're worried: close your doors and windows — the car's glass mutes almost everything.
Yes — and we strongly recommend using Camp Mode while you sleep. The mattress is designed not to block airflow from the rear vents, so Camp Mode can keep your cabin temperature exactly where you want it through the night.
This isn't a Snuuzu spec, but it's the question every new Tesla camper asks. A few rules of thumb from the Tesla community and Tesla's own guidance:
- Mild weather (15–20°C / 60–70°F): ~8–10% over an 8–9 hour night
- Cold weather (around freezing): can rise to 15–20% per night
- Hot weather with A/C running: roughly similar to mild — 10–15%
Aim to start the night with at least 40–60% state of charge, and 50%+ in winter, so you have buffer to drive to your next charger in the morning. Camp Mode automatically disables around 20% to protect your driving range.
We advise against it — your safety simply isn't worth the risk. As soft as the mattress is, it's no substitute for your seatbelt. The Snuuzu is for sleeping in a parked car (in Park). Treat inflation and deflation as a stationary activity, just as Tesla recommends for their own mattress.
Materials, Care & Cleaning
Everything in the Snuuzu is made and selected with safety and quality in mind — in line with all applicable regulations and rules, and beyond that, per our own standards.
The top cover is made from organic Lyocell (Tencel) — a sustainable fabric derived from wood pulp using a closed-loop, low-chemical process. It's soft, breathable, moisture-wicking, anti-bacterial, anti-allergenic, and skin-friendly. Underneath you have supportive memory foam, a pressurised TPU air layer, and a tough waterproof base — all tested for a comfortable, safe night's rest.
Yes. The Lyocell ticking cover unzips, comes off, and is machine-washable (wash at 30°C / ~86°F on a low spin, then air- or sun-dry). This is one of the most-loved features for customers who travel with kids or pets — you can throw it in the wash between trips.
Yes. Customers regularly camp with dogs and small kids on the Snuuzu. The waterproof base protects the mattress core from condensation and accidents, and the washable cover handles the rest. We do suggest using a sheet, though — pet nails can scuff the top layer. They won't puncture anything, but a sheet keeps everything looking clean.
No. We use medical-grade, odour-free TPU rather than cheap PVC. There may be a faint "new product" smell from the foam on first unboxing, since the mattress has been sealed for a while after production — airing it out for 24–48 hours fully dissipates it.
Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap. For anything bigger, unzip the Lyocell cover and machine-wash it — check the care label on the Tencel layer for the right settings. The washable cover takes the brunt, so just treat spills promptly.
Stored in its duffle bag, in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. There's no need to keep it inflated — though we do recommend airing it out for a few hours before longer-term storage.
Ordering, Shipping & Tracking
Worldwide. We have customers across the EU (Netherlands, Germany, Spain and beyond), the UK, Norway, the US, and many other countries around the globe. We operate warehouses in both the Netherlands (European and global orders) and the United States (US and Canadian orders) for fast, regional shipping.
- USA: Free shipping (2–3 day delivery on average)
- Canada & other countries: Calculated at checkout; we'll keep you informed at every step.
Orders are processed Monday through Friday and ship from our warehouse in Houston, Texas. Typical timelines:
- USA: 2–3 business days on average
- Canada: 3–7 business days
- Other countries: delivery times vary, sometimes longer depending on customs
Once your order is processed, you'll receive a confirmation email with tracking information.
If a specific model is temporarily out of stock, your order goes on pre-order and is fulfilled as soon as our next inventory batch arrives. We communicate any delays proactively, and you can cancel a pre-ordered item before it ships if your plans change.
- Orders within the USA ship from our warehouse in Houston, Texas — no additional customs.
- Orders to Canada and other countries outside the USA may be subject to local import duties or taxes, which are the customer's responsibility. We'll always do our best to clarify this in advance for your destination. We've also lowered our pricing for these regions, so your total ends up close to what US customers pay including tax.
Returns, Warranty & Replacement Parts
For hygiene and resale reasons, mattresses that have been unsealed or used generally fall outside our standard return policy. Unopened, as-new returns are reviewed individually and we do our best to find a fair solution. Return shipping is at the customer's expense, unless we made the mistake.
Please get in touch immediately with photos. Depending on the situation, we'll arrange a partial refund or a full replacement. We deal with this case-by-case and we move quickly.
3 years, covering defects in materials and workmanship. That said, we built the Snuuzu to last far longer — every part is replaceable, and we keep spares available on request.
Yes. The Snuuzu is built to last, and one of our principles is: if something breaks, you shouldn't need a whole new mattress. We can supply replacement covers, pumps, charging cables, and other parts when needed. Just contact us with your order details.
Once a mattress is unsealed it can't be resold for hygiene reasons, so a traditional sleep trial isn't currently part of our standard policy. However, we handle every case individually — if something is genuinely wrong, we want to hear about it and make it right.
Privacy, Safety & Tesla Camping Tips
This is personal. For most people, yes — for three reasons: privacy, blocking early-morning light, and keeping cabin temperature stable. Custom Model Y and Model 3 sunshades (available from many third-party makers) take seconds to put up.
Yes. Camp Mode does not automatically lock the doors. Lock them manually from the touchscreen or the Tesla app once you're settled. The Tesla app remains the easiest way to adjust temperature without leaving your sleeping spot.
Sleeping in an EV is far safer than sleeping in an idling combustion car — there's no carbon monoxide risk because there's no engine running. Just choose a legal, safe parking spot (a campground, a designated overnight area, or somewhere with the property owner's permission) and arrive with enough charge.
We recommend it. Sentry Mode keeps the car awake and significantly increases overnight battery drain. Disable it before you sleep unless you specifically need it.

Great quality doesn't come cheap. We built the Snuuzu with one goal: the most comfortable, car-tailored mattress that still packs down small enough to disappear under the floor. You're paying for a custom-fit shape (no gaps), the patent-pending surface-flattening layer, organic Lyocell, hotel-grade memory foam, an integrated rechargeable pump, a 3-year warranty, and fully replaceable parts. Most customers tell us it pays for itself in skipped hotel nights within a single longer trip.

About Snuuzu
A small team of Tesla owners and product designers based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The story started in 2013, when founders Omar and Per took delivery of one of the first 250 Model S cars in Europe. After years of road-tripping and sleeping in the car in beautiful spots — and never finding a mattress good enough — we set out to engineer our own.
Designed in Amsterdam. Manufactured at a partner factory that has passed the "green and low-carbon factory" assessment. Our local warehouse and office in the Netherlands have an A++++ energy label and are 83.8% powered by renewable energy.
