The map knows where the chargers are. It does not know that the campground gate closes at 9:00 p.m., the reserved site is tent-only or tomorrow begins with a trailhead forty miles from breakfast.
Those details live between route planning and camping planning. A calm overnight joins them before the trip starts.
Make the first morning decision first
Write down where the car must go after the bed is packed. The answer could be a hike, ferry, work appointment, another campground or simply coffee and a Supercharger.
Open that route in the current Tesla navigation and inspect the estimated energy at arrival. Trip Planner accounts for factors such as route, temperature and elevation, but the estimate can change. Weather, speed, detours and charger availability still matter.
Decide what would make the morning comfortable. A remote departure may need more battery in reserve. A site beside reliable charging may allow a tighter sequence. Cold or very hot weather can increase overnight climate demand.
Avoid choosing a fixed arrival percentage copied from another owner's trip. The useful margin covers the parked night, the first morning leg and a plausible plan change in your car and conditions.
Confirm that the reserved place permits car sleeping
Choose one stop whose current rules explicitly allow the way you plan to stay. Save the reservation or operator page, exact site type, check-in time, gate process and parking boundary. A campground name on the map is not enough to plan the final charge around.

Save a second confirmed option. It needs to allow the same use and sit within a distance the remaining battery and arrival time can support. Another hopeful pin is not a backup. It is the same question wearing a different label.
Pick the last charger for reliability and location
The charger before bed should leave enough energy for climate, the morning route and a backup. It should also be open, compatible and reasonably dependable when you arrive.
Use Tesla navigation to route through Superchargers and view current station details. If another charging network is part of the plan, verify connector compatibility, access hours, payment setup and reported status in advance.
The final charging stop is a good moment to check the campsite notice, weather alerts and fire restrictions. Use the facilities, finish dinner and bring overnight bags forward. This is easier beneath charger lighting than at a dark site with the mattress already halfway open.
Charge for the complete scenario rather than chasing a pleasing number on the screen. If wind or temperature has changed the estimate, add margin or choose a different stop. The planned route is not offended by revisions.
If a charger is unexpectedly unavailable, return to live navigation. Do not spend the evening protecting the honor of a plan created three days earlier.
Reach the site while you can still see it
The National Park Service recommends making camp before dark and checking the site for hazards. Apply that habit even when the bed stays inside the Tesla.
Read the entrance and site signs. Confirm the reservation, parking boundary and current restrictions. Look for branches, flood channels, sharp debris, wildlife instructions and anything that may affect the doors or hatch.
Listen for road traffic, generators and gathering areas. Check lighting from the rear of the cabin. Identify the bathroom route and the way out if the site must be left during the night.
When the booked site turns out to prohibit car sleeping or current conditions make it unsuitable, use the backup. Moving before the bed is built is mildly annoying. Moving after blankets, privacy panels and every soft bag have expanded is a touring production.
